What’s The Deal With My iPhone Not Turning On?

A Dead Battery

Are you perplexed by the dark screen on your iPhone? It’s possible that you have a drained battery. You may be encountering power troubles if your phone went off while you still have a lot of battery left or if your device has been becoming hot quickly. As Apple batteries get older, they lose their ability to retain a charge and become less effective. As a result, their performance degrades, especially when the battery is low, resulting in unplanned shutdowns.

Damage Caused By Wate

Despite the fact that many gadgets today are waterproof, even a small amount of liquid can destroy internal components, leaving you with a dead iPhone. Check out our water damage guide if you suspect your iOS device is unresponsive due to liquid damage.

Physical Injury

Even though there is no visible physical damage, if you dropped your iPhone recently, it may cease working. To check for this, shine a light on the phone’s screen to see if it’s damaged, and then try contacting it to see whether it rings or vibrates. If your screen has been shattered for some time, it’s likely that continued use has caused additional damage to the phone, making it appear to be off.

Problems With Software

Due to software difficulties, your iPhone may occasionally fail to switch on. Certain apps and iOS updates may create issues, and your iPhone may become unresponsive if your phone crashes while your operating system is being updated.

What Can I Do If My Iphone Won’t Turn On?

These six tips from our experts will help you revive an iPhone that won’t power on. Try each one in turn until you find one that works for you!

Charge your battery first.

The most common cause of iPhones not turning on is fully drained batteries. Wait 30-60 minutes after plugging in your charger (make sure the plug is turned on!) for your gadget to receive enough power to restart. After this amount of time has passed, try turning it on. If you want your battery to live longer, check out our battery life advice. It’s also a good idea to try two different chargers to rule out any cable difficulties. If you discover that the problem is caused by a bad battery, we can replace it for you.

Pro tip: Some iPhones may no longer charge when plugged into a wall charger, but they may charge when connected to a computer, so try both!

Force Restart / Simple Restart

If your iPhone still won’t switch on after charging, use the tried-and-true “Have you tried turning it off and on?” method. Hold down the on/off button for a few seconds to restart your iPhone (it’s generally on the right side, but if you have an iPhone 4/5/SE, it’s on the top edge). If you have an iPhone X, you must press both the volume up and side buttons. You might also want to try forcing an iPhone to restart? Check out our instructions to reset your iPhone.

Use Itunes To Restore Factory Settings (Data Loss)

If none of the preceding steps work, you can try restoring your iPhone to factory settings via iTunes.

Get In Touch With Apple Support.

Even if you haven’t tried the preceding procedures, be sure your iPhone is still covered by Apple’s guarantee. If this is the case, and your problem isn’t due to hardware or water damage, go to the Apple Support website to see if they can help you out for free. If your screen is black or stuck, there are a few things you can do.

Follow The Instructions For Your Specific Device.

  • Press and swiftly release the volume up button on your iPhone 8 or later, including the iPhone SE (2nd generation).
  • The volume down button should be pressed and swiftly released.
  • Hold down the side button until the Apple logo appears.
  • Follow these procedures to examine your hardware and charge your phone if it won’t switch on. It’s possible that you’ll need to charge for up to an hour.
  • Contact Apple Support if your phone still won’t turn on.
  • On your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, go to Settings > General > Notifications > Notifications >
  • Hold down the side button and the volume down button until the Apple logo appears.
  • Follow these procedures to examine your hardware and charge your phone if it won’t switch on. It’s possible that you’ll need to charge for up to an hour.
  • Contact Apple Support if your phone still won’t turn on.

Iphone 6s And Older Models, Including The Iphone Se (1st Generation)

Press and hold the Home button, as well as the side or top buttons, until the Apple logo appears.

Follow these procedures to examine your hardware and charge your phone if it won’t switch on. It’s possible that you’ll need to charge for up to an hour.

Contact Apple Support if your phone still won’t turn on.
